Will I be notified when someone joins?

Yes, if you have notifications turned on. You’ll hear about new joins, requests to join (if approval is on) and new messages in the group chat.

You can choose which notifications you get in Settings → Push notifications, for example turning Linkup activity or New linkup messages on or off. See How do I change my notifications?
